Mudroom Locker Plans
Mudroom Locker Plans
When decorating the mudroom, there are many options to choose, and different directions to go. You could have beautiful built in cabinetry; you could attain the rustic look through various pieces of antique and/or retro furniture; you could have a simple room full of coat hooks and shoe racks; or a combinations of all of them and have a set of lockers. If you are planning to have mudroom lockers, then you could look at it in two ways:
Do-it-Yourself Mudroom Locker Plans
This mudroom locker plans could be easier than you think, and if your handy with power tools, you will not even need a set of blue prints. A couple ¾” sheets of plywood, MDF, or any other sheet stock you prefer will suffice:
Two sheets should be enough for two lockers. Cut three pieces to about six feet. I would go no more if you want the kids to be able to reach to top safely. Five feet if you want no problems in that regard. Have them be about one foot to 18 inches wide.
Second, cut four pieces to 16½” x16½”-18” inches, then four to be square 18”x18“.
Next, lay out the pieces with the long ones being the sides and the middle, the larger (18×18) pieces being the top and bottom, and the smaller leftover pieces being shelves. I recommend putting the shelves 12-18” from the top and bottom to allow enough space for coats.
Place glue along all the edges that will meet, drill pilot holes and screw them together.
Sand all surfaces, usually a pass with 80 grit, then 120-180 makes a great finish.
Add trim, then paint or stain the entire piece the same.
Finally, add hooks for coats and bags, feet on the bottom will also keep the unit from scratching the floor. (***you could also cut the pieces that were 18”x18” to 18”x35½”, allowing all three upright boards to go together seamlessly, and it will also be more sturdy)
The total cost will be for this project (if using ¾” sanded pine) will be between $85 and $150 depending on the hardware and stain you use. The cost will go up if you choose to use maple, or birch, etc.
What if DIY for Mudroom Lockers won’t work?
Well, if you happen to not be tool savvy, and still want to have a cheap set of mudroom lockers, you still can. If you make a trip to that blue and yellow store, starting with “I” you can get a simple bookcase that is about 16” wide for about $50. Buy as many of those as you need cubby’s, and in the colour you prefer (5 available), and you are good to go. When assembling them at home, just put the top and bottom shelves about a foot from the bottom and top to allow for shoes, gloves, etc.
These bookcases can all be screwed together along their edges making one continuous unit, then screwed to the wall. You will have to add your own hooks, no problem, they are cheap, and you get to have the choice of your own hardware too!
You can also get doors for these units if you would like to hide its contents, they come in glass and will double your cost, also at $50 each.
Total project cost (for 3 lockers): $150, no doors; $300, with doors.
I hope this helps in your search, and gets you closer to what you want for your mudroom locker plans.
